Treble for Friðriksson and Magnúsdóttir in first IPS Ranking weekend

On 10 and 11 August the first 4 IPS Rankings were played in Iceland. The first two rankings were played in Keflavík, the other two in Reykjavík. Matthías Örn Friðriksson, Vitor Charrua, Elínborg Steinunnardóttir and Ingibjörg Magnúsdóttir were victorious.

Matthías Örn Friðriksson is started well on the new IPS Ranking season. He started the tournament with a bye. In the last 16 the consistent Vitor Charrua was the first opponent for Friðriksson. Friðriksson played very well and won 5-0, including a 15-darter, a 87-checkout, a checkout percentage of 45% and an average of 79,1. Pétur Guðmundsson was beaten in the quarterfinals 5-1. Þröstur Ingimarsson was the opponent for Friðriksson in the semi-finals. ‘The Eagle’ started extremely well, he won the first three legs including a 14-dart-leg. Ingimarsson came back to 3-2, but leg 6 and 7 went to Friðriksson for a 5-2 win and a place in the final. Karl Helgi Jónsson was the other finalist. He stormed through the final with wins over Jónas Helgason (5-4), Alexander Þorvaldsson (5-4) and Guðmundur Sigurðsson (5-2). In the final the first two legs went with the darts. Jónsson broke in the third leg, but Friðriksson broke immediately back with a 94-checkout for 2-2. Then 3 legs went with the darts, with a 79-checkout from Matthías and a 16-darter from Jónsson, for 4-3. In the eighth leg Jónsson missed two darts at double for 4-4, Friðriksson hit double 5 for his first IPS Ranking title this season. At the women, Elinborg Steinunnardóttir won the first ranking, she defeated Ingibjörg Magnúsdóttir 5-1 in the final.

Double for Friðriksson in Keflavik, Jónsson runner-up again
Matthías Örn Friðriksson continued his win streak in Iceland. He completed the double in Keflavík. Friðriksson had a bye in the first round, before he defeated Kristinn Helgason 5-2 in the last 16, including a 131 checkout. In the quarterfinals Bjarni Sigurðsson was the opponent. Sigurðsson had a lead of 4-1, but couldn’t finish the match. Friðriksson won 4 legs in a row, including a 66, 56 and a 81 checkout on the bull in the deciding leg. Guðmundur Sigurðsson reached his second semi-final of the day, but the 32-year old from Grindavík was too strong with a scoreline of 5-0. Karl Helgi Jónsson also reached the final for the second time of the day. This time he defeated Eyjólfur Gunnarsson (5-0), Vitor Charrua (5-2) and Pétur Guðmundsson (5-3) on his way to the final. The second final of the day went between Friðriksson and Jónsson once again. The first 4 legs went with the darts. The fifth leg was a bad leg from both players, but Friðriksson broke Jónsson and hold his own leg in 21 darts for 4-2. Leg 7 and 8 went with the darts again and so Friðriksson won his second title of the day with his second 5-3 win over Jónsson in the final. Ingibjörg Magnúsdóttir won the second IPS Ranking at the women with 5-4 win over Petrea Friðriksdóttir in the final.

IPS Ranking 3 started in Reykjavik Sunday morning. Matthías Örn Friðriksson was the strongest in Reykjavik again, after his two wins in the Icelandic Pro Tour. Friðriksson had a bye in the first round, so his first match was against Hallgrimur Egilsson in the last 16. The first 7 legs went with the darts. In leg 8 Egilsson missed doubles for 4-4, Friðriksson punished Egilsson and won 5-3. In the quarterfinals Alexander Þorvaldsson was the opponent for Friðriksson. Friðriksson played very well and won 5-1, including finishes of 86, 87 and 85. Gissur Halldórsson surprisingly reached the semi-finals and was the opponent for Friðriksson. ‘The Eagle’ had no problems with Halldórsson; 5-1 including an average of 73,5. Guðmundur Friðbjörnsson reached the final of Icelandic Pro Tour 2, but he reached also the final of IPS Ranking 3. He defeated to the final Guðmundur Sigurðsson (5-3), Pétur Guðmundsson (5-3) and Vitor Charrua (5-1). Friðriksson started very strong in the final, he won the first three legs including a 94-checkout and a 16-darter. Then in legs 4-6 there were 3 breaks. Friðbjörnsson hold his own leg in 16 darts for 4-3. In leg 8 Friðbjörnsson missed a lot on the outer ring for 4-4, Friðriksson punished him to check out 20 with his last dart in hand for the treble of IPS Ranking titles! Ingibjörg Magnúsdóttir won her second title of the weekend, she defeated Petrea Friðriksdóttir 5-3.

Charrua wins IPS Ranking 4 and denies Friðriksson unbeaten weekend
The last ranking of the weekend wasn’t won by Matthías Örn Friðriksson. The always consistent Vitor Charrua won the last ranking of the weekend. He started the tournament with a bye. In the last 16 Charrua played against Kristján Sigurðsson. Charrua won 5-1, including two 17-darters. In the quarterfinals young talent Alex Máni Pétursson was the next opponent for Charrua. Pétursson had a 2-1 lead in that match, but Charrua won 4 of last 5 legs including a 13-darter for a 5-3 win. In the semi-finals the man in form, Matthías Örn Friðriksson was the opponent for ‘The Grenade’. Charrua won the first 4 legs in the semi-finals, with a 80-checkout in the first leg and a 14-darter in the second leg. Friðriksson came back to 4-2, but Charrua held his own leg for a 5-2 win and a place in the final. Charrua stopped the 18 game win streak of Friðriksson. Friðrik Diego was the other finalist. He reached the final with wins over Guðmundur Friðbjörnsson (5-3), Guðmundur Sigurðsson (5-3), Þröstur Ingimarsson (5-3) and Pétur Guðmundsson (5-1). Diego won the first leg in the final with a 99-checkout, after that Charrua won 5 legs in a row for his first IPS Ranking title of the new season. Ingibjörg Magnúsdóttir ended her weekend with her third title in a row in the womens competition. She defeated  Petrea Friðriksdóttir once again, this time the scoreline was 5-2.
